17th-century French messenger box 11¾"

US$1,462
A charming petite French messenger box from the seventeenth century. The outside is covered in leather, held in place with iron strapping. One can't help recall the saying 'don't shoot the messenger'!

The trunk is unlocked and opens without a key, and retains its charming hidden keyhole mechanism which includes a metal piece that slides to reveal the keyhole. The interior is lined with Dominotiers paper. Note the interior hinges have been thoughtfully restored with new leather. This would make a lovely storage piece or decorative element on a bookcase display or office.

No keys.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
