A stunning seventeenth-century Louis XVIII-period wooden messenger box covered in embossed leather. Note the pretty designs around the piece, the slightly domed lid, and the iron handle on top. Note how the inside features the original colorful artisan marbleized paper. Note the intriguing antique paper fixed to the underside of the box featuring pages with excerpts titled for example as "Des Offices Hereditaires".

A rare find and marvelous piece of history to delight any French or box collector's interiors. Note: "In law, Hereditary Office means every office held hereditarily for the performance of duties connected with the administration or collection of the public revenue or with the village police, or with the settlement of boundaries, or other matters of civil administration."
