Auguste Vimar was born on November 3, 1851in Marseille . He studied at the Lycée Thiers.

He is best known for his talents as an illustrator. He illustrated great classics like Fables by La Fontaine or books by his friends, like L'Arche de Noé by Paul Guigou . He also wrote and illustrated children's books himself, such as Le Boy by Marius Bouillabès or L'Automobile Vimar .

He contributed to many newspapers including Figaro Illustrated , Le Rire , Mon journal , Le Journal du dimanche, La Vedette , La Provence artistic & picturesque .

He influenced Benjamin Rabier.

Auguste Vimar died on August 21, 1916 in Marseille.
