Early 19th-century blown glass preserving jar - blue 14¼"

SKU: 10867

US$564
This magnificent Spanish preserving jar is from the island of Majorca, late-eighteenth or early-nineteenth century. Originally used for preserving olives or anchovies. Traditionally protected in handmade wicker and hay and stored in a cellar. Hand-crafted, blown glass. Faults and bubbles are part of the making process and reflect the light beautifully. Care must be taken when cleaning because the underside is sharp where the glass was cut during the blowing process.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
Approx. overall 10¼" diameter x 14¼" high
