Wilhelmus Adrianus van Berkel was a butcher in Rotterdam in the late 19th century. He invented a cutting edge slicer then evolved his business to manufacture scales. This fine Berkel scale dates to the 1960's and was used by merchants including butcher's, fishmongers, boulangers and charcuterie specialists.
It is made with mixed materials including stainless steel, enamel and mercury glass for the mirror.
Functional although not calibrated.
