It retains its metal manufacturer's plaque marked "Fauteuil G.B., Baudignécourt (Meuse), Breveté S.G.D.G. et Déposé." The warm brown wooden frame features a tall, arched cane backrest, a matching woven seat, gently curved armrests supported by turned spindles, and slender fluted legs. The backrest adjusts to three reclining positions, while a simple pull extends a caned leg rest from beneath the seat, transforming the armchair into a full-length lounger. The backrest can also be fully removed for easier transport. The wood has developed an attractive patina with gentle wear, and the caning is slightly slack on the seat (a protective cushion is recommended if the chair is to be used).

The combination of warm wood, open canework and slender proportions gives this chair a light, attractive appearance, while its clever mechanism adds an interesting element of early 20th-century furniture design. It would be particularly appealing in a library or reading corner, paired with a floor lamp and a soft linen cushion, or in a conservatory where the natural materials would sit comfortably among plants and wicker furniture. Whether displayed as an armchair or extended into a chaise longue, it has an inviting, relaxed character and a practical versatility that remains appealing today.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Approx. overall 38½" high x 34¼" wide x 32¼" deep/ 50¾" when extended
Approx. overall 98cm high x 87cm wide x 82cm deep/ 129cm when extended
