Vallauris, a town in southeastern France, has a long history of ceramics dating back to Roman times, but it gained significant prominence in the mid-20th century with the arrival of avant-garde artists. Pablo Picasso moved to Vallauris in 1948 and collaborated with the Madoura Pottery, revolutionizing ceramic art with his innovative designs and attracting other artists to the area. Prominent ceramists like Roger Capron, Jean Derval, and Robert Picault also contributed to the town's reputation, while the Massier family had been influential since the late 19th century. Vallauris thus became a hub for artistic ceramics, blending traditional techniques with modernist creativity.
