Its warm terracotta ground is decorated by hand in lightly raised slip with a wonderfully narrative country scene: a woman in traditional dress carries a goose in a basket beneath leafy branches, while a generous border of cream, blue-green and yellow flowers frames the composition. The slightly naïve drawing, earthy palette and subtle relief give the piece a particularly appealing folk character. It is stamped R.Gery on the reverse, with Saint-Laurent-du-Pape incised into the clay.
