mid-20th-century-painted-hunting-dog-sculpture-7-x-153-4
Mid-20th Century Painted Hunting Dog Sculpture -7" x 15¾"

This small vintage Italian hunting-dog sculpture is modeled in a dense, weighty material, likely painted plaster, with a glossy cream-and-black finish. The pose is especially well observed: the dog leans forward with one foreleg extended, tail held level and head lowered, while the eyes glance upward with a gentle, attentive expression that suggests obedience and trust. The upward glance is especially expressive, with the reddish inner rims of the eyes adding a remarkably lifelike detail.

The realistic body language gives the sculpture much of its endearing appeal: the modeled fur, black markings, lowered head and slightly deferential posture capture the familiar demeanour of a working dog with unusual sensitivity. A few small old restorations, minor impacts and tiny losses to the painted finish remain discreet and sit comfortably within the piece’s vintage character.

Its petite scale makes it ideal for a desk, bookshelf or mantel. It would feel particularly at home in a ranch, country house or hunting lodge, but would be equally appealing in any dog lover’s home. It would also make a thoughtful gift, especially for someone with an interest in sporting dogs.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Approx. overall 7" high x 15¾" long x 8" wide
Approx. overall 18cm high x 40cm long x 20cm wide

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1166/6698/files/DSC09151_04b393c4-c864-42f2-b43f-3915e3b4ac63.jpg?v=1790854145
