Both have elegant pedestal bases and particularly pretty scrolling handles, giving the otherwise simple forms a lovely sculptural quality.

The Lunéville pottery tradition dates to the 18th century, when Jacques Chambrette established the celebrated faïencerie in Lorraine. During the 19th century, the manufacture expanded significantly under Keller & Guérin and became one of the important names in French decorative and domestic ceramics.

Sarreguemines was founded in 1790 and grew dramatically during the 19th century, becoming one of Europe’s major ceramic manufacturers. Renowned for its faïence fine, tableware and innovative decorative ceramics, the factory developed an international reputation under the Utzschneider and de Geiger families.

Both tureens retain their maker’s marks to the underside. Their surfaces are richly crackled, worn and stained from generations of use, giving them the wonderfully timeworn character of genuine antique kitchenware. Neither retains its original lid. The brown Sarreguemines tureen has a superficial hairline crack, but this does not affect its structural integrity and the piece remains solid.

Beautiful displayed together on a kitchen island, dresser or console. They could also be used as generous bowls for lemons, artichokes or seasonal fruit, or as cachepots for herbs, flowers or small plants with an internal liner to protect the antique ceramic.

Larger brown measures approx. overall 6" high x 8¾" diameter externally x 10¼" wide incl. handles
Larger brown measures approx. overall 15cm high x 22cm diameter externally x 26cm wide incl. handles
