The bases retain traces of old green and blue paint, probably intended to suggest water. A shallow depression is formed into the back of each duck and may originally have been intended to hold a small amount of planting. Their outlines and details have softened considerably with age, with a few small losses visible, but these irregularities are very much part of their charm. Dense moss, lichen and mineral deposits have built up across the surfaces, creating a superb natural patina and giving the pair the appearance of having long belonged to the garden.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003eThe simple, slightly naïve modeling and richly mossed surfaces give the ducks a gentle, nostalgic character.
