Its softly flared rim and gently tapering body have an irregular, handmade shape that reveals the hand of the potter. The underside is decorated with petal-like fluting radiating from a small, rounded clay finial, whose unglazed tip reveals the natural terracotta. The rich, glossy glaze varies from deep chestnut brown to warm amber and honey tones, with broad, irregular patches of color that give the surface a lively, almost marbled appearance. Three aged metal chains are attached around the rim for hanging. The pottery shows light wear, and natural irregularities consistent with its handmade character.

The generous rounded shape and beautifully varied brown glaze give this planter a warm, earthy appeal. It would look lovely suspended on a covered terrace, in a garden room or near a bright window, filled with trailing ivy, ferns or seasonal flowers spilling over the rim. The rich amber tones would look particularly attractive against fresh green foliage and natural materials such as old wood and stone. A removable inner pot or protective liner is recommended for planting.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Approx. overall incl. chains 25¼" high x 10¼" diameter.
