A highly decorative early 20th-century iron café table, distinguished by its sculptural base composed of interlaced iron ribbons that rise and curve in a fluid, organic movement beneath the square top. The riveted construction beautifully expresses the handcrafted character of early 20th-century metalwork, while lending the structure both strength and subtle flexibility. The airy openwork base gives the piece remarkable visual lightness despite the solidity of the iron. The intertwined elements create an elegant rhythm suggestive of looping ribbons or unfolding foliage, lending the table an almost Art Nouveau sensibility.
At some point repainted in a deep garden green, the surface now displays attractive areas of wear and flaking that reveal older layers beneath. These successive coats create a richly textured patina, enhancing the table’s timeworn charm.
With its graceful proportions and poetic lines, this table would sit beautifully on a shaded terrace, in a conservatory, or tucked into a leafy garden corner. Its sculptural base gives it a quietly lyrical presence, equally at home beside weathered stone, climbing plants, or the faded elegance of old café seating.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
