A substantial marmite-shaped cachepot in glazed terracotta, circa 1900, combining rustic charm with refined craftsmanship. Wheel-thrown with a rolled collar, rounded belly, and sculptural raised lug handles, it features a strikingly streaked glaze in tobacco brown, aubergine, moss green, and ochre that drips and pools with a gentle sheen. The surface shows fine craquelure, light iridescence in places, and small firing freckles that highlight its handmade character, while the interior remains unglazed.
Its generous scale and rich, earthy tones make it an elegant container for a citrus or olive tree. In a country kitchen, it anchors a worktable or dresser, either left empty or filled with fresh blooms when lined. And it also sits beautifully on a garden room console or bench, where the layered glaze and softly aged surface bring warmth and natural sophistication.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
