A 19th-century French copper watering can with a wonderfully sculptural silhouette, entirely hand-soldered and bearing the rich traces of long use and careful repair over time. Crafted from hammered copper sheets assembled by hand, the watering can features a generous rounded body, curved handle, and long angled spout topped with a finely perforated sprinkler head.
Its surface is beautifully irregular, with numerous dents, small deformations, visible solder repairs, and hand-worked seams that speak to decades of practical use and careful maintenance. These restorations, now fully integrated into the object’s surface, give it a deeply authentic and tactile character. The copper has developed a varied patina ranging from warm reddish-brown tones to darker oxidised areas, with soft traces of verdigris and silvery solder marks creating subtle tonal contrasts throughout. The gently misshapen form and visible hammering further reinforce its handmade quality and rustic charm.
Though no longer intended for regular use, it makes a striking decorative object for a kitchen, potting shed, conservatory, or garden room. Filled with dried flowers or simply displayed on open shelving, it brings warmth, texture, and the quiet poetry of old utilitarian objects to an interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
