Dating from the 1930s / 40s, this wide mouth pitcher is actually a spittoon or ‘crachoire’ and is signed S.E.N Dieulefit. Dieulefit is a village in the south of France, renowned for pottery. The glaze is olive green and the handle and rim are dark brown (typical of pottery from Dieulefit). There is a crack in the surface of the glaze on the inside that is superficial and does not pass through the clay. A rare find that will look wonderful displayed in a collection of antique French pottery.
