Dating from the late seventeenth/ early eighteenth century, this superb Louis XIV parclose mirror has a frame of exceptional beauty. The depth of the sculpture is extraodinary; the crest features a draped lady holding an infant sitting above a lambrequin, surrounded by openork scrolling acanthus leaves wih a very pretty diaper background ground with dots and florets. It is crowned with a scrolling feather-like palmette. Note the pediment can be lifted off (it slots into place with a wooden rod). The gilding is original, as is the glass. Note one of the panes in the top part of the frame is cracked but stable. This superb mirror came from a Hotel Particulaire in Aix-en-Provence and will be the focal point of any room.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
