From southwest France, this late 19th-century butcher’s table pairs a softly patinated marble top with a richly sculptural cast-iron base. The ironwork is animated by pierced scrolls, curved supports, and a circular stretcher, retaining traces of green paint now mellowed to a handsome, timeworn surface. The marble top, possibly a later replacement, shows a pleasing patina with gentle wear, small edge nicks, and scattered staining from outdoor exposure, suggesting the table was at some point repurposed on a terrace.
Originally designed as work and display tables in butcher shops, pieces of this type were valued for their durability and hygienic stone surfaces, which could be easily cleaned while standing up to heavy use. Today, their robust construction and graphic silhouettes make them especially appealing as decorative furnishings. This compact example brings quiet character to an entryway, kitchen, or garden room, where it can serve as a console, side table, or serving station. The contrast between refined marble and weathered iron lends a grounded, collected presence to both contemporary and traditional interiors, balancing rustic authenticity with sculptural clarity.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
