This elegant early 20th-century Sarreguemines faience long fish platter embodies the charm and refinement of French ceramics. Branded underneath, it attests to its authenticity and origin from the esteemed Sarreguemines manufactory, renowned for its exquisite glazed earthenware. With delicate detailing and a timeless aesthetic, this platter is both a functional serving piece and a decorative statement. Several matching pieces are also available for separate purchase.
The Sarreguemines faience manufactory, established in the late 18th century in the town of Sarreguemines, Lorraine, became one of France’s most celebrated producers of fine earthenware. Situated along the German border, the region’s rich clay deposits and access to the Saar River made it an ideal location for ceramic production. By the 19th and early 20th centuries, Sarreguemines had gained international recognition, supplying its beautifully hand-painted and transferware ceramics to European aristocracy and beyond. The company continued to thrive, adapting to Art Nouveau and Art Deco influences while maintaining the traditional craftsmanship that defined its pieces.
This versatile platter is as practical as it is beautiful. Whether used for serving or displayed as part of a French country or farmhouse-inspired collection, it brings a touch of vintage elegance to any setting. Mount it on a wall in a kitchen or dining room, style it on open shelving alongside other antique ceramics, or repurpose it as a refined centerpiece on a sideboard or console table.
