An exceptional 18th-century hand-carved limestone planter, sourced from the gardens of a French château. Crafted from solid calcaire (limestone), this piece was sculpted by hand (not molded) demonstrating the artisanal skill and timeworn character of genuine period craftsmanship. The cylindrical form is adorned with a delicate ivy garland encircling the upper body, symbolizing fidelity and nature’s enduring beauty. The lower section features a fluted basket motif, enhancing its sculptural presence and evoking the classical elegance of French garden ornamentation.

Naturally weathered with mossy undertones and surface losses consistent with age and outdoor use, this planter bears a rich patina that speaks to centuries of history. Its shallow bowl makes it ideal for displaying low arrangements, succulents, or simply as a decorative object with architectural interest. A rare and distinguished piece for collectors of antique garden statuary and French decorative arts.

Heavy wear and rustic condition consistent with age and use.
