This charming 18th-century mirror is richly carved in giltwood and features parcloses , small inset mirrored panels framing the central glass. The warm patina of the original gilding enhances the timeworn beauty of the piece, with subtle wear that tells its centuries-old story.
The openwork crest is adorned with a delicate central flower and a stylized cornucopia (horn of plenty) motif, a classical symbol of abundance and prosperity. Elegant scrolling forms frame the crest, their pierced design lending lightness and grace. The surround is embellished with carved foliate details, and the narrow mirrored sections add depth and sparkle. The original mercury glass displays beautiful foxing, a natural mottling developed over time, which lends the reflection a soft, romantic quality and speaks to the authenticity of the mirror’s age.
This mirror would bring a touch of 18th-century refinement to an entrance, bedroom, or living space, perfect for reflecting candlelight and adding an antique focal point to your interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
