This late 19th-century French bistro table is composed of a cast-iron base and circular marble top encircled by its original brass banding. The pedestal rises from a tripod base with robust paw feet, each carefully modeled with pronounced claws and subtle fur-like detailing that gives the piece both stability and sculptural presence. At the center of the base appears the brewer’s star, an ancient alchemical symbol of the four elements that later became the emblem of beer houses and brasseries, confirming the table’s authentic café origins. The marble surface shows a hairline crack, and both stone and metal have developed a handsome patina that reflects decades of café use.
Bistro tables of this type were staples of French brasseries during the Belle Époque, where their durable iron bases and marble tops offered both practicality and elegance. Today, this guéridon serves as a versatile accent piece: as a small dining table for two in a kitchen or breakfast nook, or as a side or drinks table in a living room, sunroom, or covered terrace. Its authentic wear, refined detailing, and compact scale bring a touch of Parisian café charm to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
