This exquisite 1930s Longchamp soup tureen beautifully blends ornate design with delicate craftsmanship. Its cream-colored ceramic surface is decorated with intricate blue and red floral motifs, part of the “Rouennais” pattern—a design inspired by the historic Rouen faience tradition. The tureen’s elegant form is accentuated by gently curved handles and a finial-topped lid, exuding refined, timeless charm. It bears the mark “Rouennais Longchamp,” attesting to its origin.
Produced by the esteemed Longchamp ceramics manufacture in Burgundy, a house celebrated for its high-quality earthenware since the 19th century, this piece reflects a period of artistic revival when French artisans revisited classical styles with fresh nuance. The Rouennais line in particular was a tribute to the ornate, polychrome style of Rouen pottery, adapted to more modern ceramic techniques of the 20th century.
In a contemporary setting, this tureen can serve as a striking centerpiece on a dining table or sideboard. Whether used for serving or displayed in a cabinet among other heirloom pieces, it brings a graceful blend of history and French decorative artistry into the home.
