A substantial enameled steel direction sign from the Paris metro, dating to the 1930s, this rectangular piece presents a crisp white field framed by a deep blue border, with bold block typography and a right-pointing arrow. The surface shows timeworn character, including scattered enamel losses, edge chipping, and areas of oxidized metal that sit warmly against the glossy ground. In the lower right corner, the signature of Emaillerie Edmond Jean appears, a noted manufacturer responsible for Paris Métro signage until the late 1930s.
With its bold graphic clarity and unmistakable industrial character, this large sign introduces a distinctly urban note and a confident sense of scale to an entryway, hallway, or loft wall. Hung above a console or doorway, it adds a structured visual accent that sits comfortably alongside industrial lighting, vintage maps, and simple oak or metal furniture. In a kitchen or studio it can anchor a gallery arrangement, while in a home office it offers a purposeful focal point that balances patina with order. The sign is pierced with eight holes for secure wall mounting, and owing to its weight, appropriate fixings are recommended.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
