This generous fish-form platter in glazed earthenware presents a richly modeled body with layered scales, fluted dorsal ridges, and a splayed tail fin, all finished in a deep emerald green glaze with darker pooling in the recesses. The surface shows attractive tonal variation that highlights the relief work, giving a subtle iridescent depth. Signed Lunetta Vallauris, France, and dating to the mid-20th century, this piece is in good condition, showing only light surface wear on a few high points and minor kiln marks typical of studio production. Vallauris, a pottery center on the Côte d’Azur, experienced a postwar renaissance as artists and workshops revived regional traditions and embraced lively color and sculptural forms. Fish and shell motifs were a favored theme, reflecting Mediterranean life and the convivial service of seafood at table. This platter follows the majolica lineage in its glossy green glaze and press-molded relief, a vocabulary popularized in Vallauris during the 1950s as artisans balanced everyday utility with bold decorative impact. Perfect as a statement centerpiece on a dining table or kitchen island, it lends coastal character when piled with citrus, bread, or shellfish on ice. It also reads beautifully as a standalone accent on a sideboard, or hung on a wall with other Riviera ceramics to create a graphic, textural display. Pair it with simple white linens and clear glass to let the saturated green and sculpted silhouette lead the arrangement.
