This stylish French rolling bar cart from the 1960s is crafted in honey-toned bamboo with rounded corners, a gently arched push handle, and hand-lashed rattan bindings securing the frame. Two inset woven rattan shelves provide service surfaces, and the cart glides smoothly on four chromed ball casters. The bamboo shows warm nodes and natural variations, and the piece has developed an attractive timeworn patina with small scuffs, darkening at the joints, and light discoloration to the caned shelves.
Rattan furniture experienced a renaissance in mid-century France, especially with the relaxed spirit of the Riviera. Lightweight yet durable, bamboo and rattan suited indoor-outdoor living and modern entertaining. This cart reflects the period’s simplicity of line and artisanal craftsmanship, with split-rattan lashings and ball casters typical of production in the 1950s and 1960s. Designed for apéritifs and table service, the two-tier format offers ample space for bottles, glassware, and trays while remaining easy to maneuver.
Versatile and quietly chic, the cart works beautifully as a drinks trolley in a living room, sunroom, or covered porch. In a bathroom it holds folded linens and toiletries, while in a guest room it provides a welcoming surface for a tray and flowers, bringing natural texture and an easy mid-century note.
