A charming Biot jar dating from the 19th century, distinguished by its beautifully rounded, bulbous silhouette and thick rolled rim characteristic of late 19th-century examples from the South of France. Traditionally used for storing and transporting olives or olive oil, the jar is partially glazed around the upper section and interior, a practical feature that helped preserve liquids and made the vessel easier to clean, while the unglazed lower body allowed the terracotta to breathe naturally.
The wonderfully timeworn surface displays soft chalky cream and warm stone tones with traces of pale honey glaze around the neck, contrasted by areas of darker weathering and mossy patina gathered over decades of use. Visible glaze losses, surface wear, and mineral deposits further enhance its authentic rustic character. Its generous proportions and simple form give the piece a strong decorative presence while perfectly embodying the authentic charm of Provence.

Filled with tall dried grasses or olive branches, this jar brings effortless Mediterranean warmth and texture to an interior, covered terrace, or garden room, where its weathered surface and soft earthy tones can be fully appreciated. If intended for outdoor planting, the jar would need to be pierced for drainage.
