A substantial 19th-century French church candelabrum later adapted as a floor lamp. Hand carved in wood with gesso and richly gilded throughout, the column rises in an elegant baluster form with stop fluting and ring turnings, set on a tripod base carved with volutes and acanthus. The gilding has softened over time to warm gold with subtle coppery undertones, revealing touches of red bole and bare wood that enhance its depth and patina. Originally made to hold a candle beside an altar, the piece was later wired for electricity, preserving the beauty of the carving while bringing atmospheric light to an interior. The lamp is fitted with a new shade that can easily be changed to suit individual taste.
Generous in scale yet elegantly balanced, this lamp adds height, texture, and a warm, mellow glow to an entry, library, or sitting room. It sits beautifully beside a bergère or flanking a console, where its aged gilding introduces warmth and sculptural contrast in both traditional interiors and pared-back modern spaces.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
