This remarkable pastel portrait, dating from the 19th century, depicts a distinguished bourgeois man and is framed behind its original glass. The artwork is in excellent condition, with no signs of dirt or restoration. The original frame, which is mounted with keys (the diagonal wooden pieces that connect the frame as seen on the back), and the glass bear an old exhibition number in the top right corner, indicating it was once lent to the museum of Saint-Quentin la Poterie. The back of the artwork features old ink writings and a stamp from the museum. It comes from a majestic estate in Uzès, known as a hôtel particulier. The quality of execution in this pastel is exceptional, embodying the Louis XV - Transition style. This piece is an outstanding example of 19th-century portrait art and craftsmanship.
