A Belle Époque perfumer’s bottle in mouth-blown blue glass with a tall cylindrical form and short flared neck. With a generous five-liter capacity, it was likely used for storing fragrance or aromatic essences in a shop or workshop. The glass shows gentle ripples and slight irregularities consistent with hand-blown production, giving the surface a lively, organic character. The blue tone fades softly through the body and gathers more intensely at the base and neck. The bottle remains in good antique condition with minor marks and inclusions typical of handmade glass.
Large bottles such as this were commonly used by perfumers and apothecaries in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to store essential oils, extracts, and fragrance bases before they were decanted into smaller retail containers. Tinted glass was often preferred to clear glass because the color helped protect delicate aromatic compounds from light, which could alter their scent or reduce their quality over time.
Its cool blue tone adds a gentle note of color while the clean, unfussy lines give it a quietly modern presence. The simple cylindrical form sits comfortably in a range of interiors, from country and traditional to more pared back spaces. Placed on a console, shelf, or bathroom vanity, it works beautifully as a vessel for a few stems or simply as a sculptural accent.
