This elegant set of eight porcelain plates comes from the renowned Sèvres porcelain manufacture, celebrated for its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless designs. The plates are adorned with a hand painted sophisticated motif of interlacing blue patterns, floral accents, and striking gilded accents showcasing the distinctive refinement for which Sèvres is known.
Produced in 1923 and later decorated in 1926, as marked on the reverse, the plates also bear the painter's signature and the mention "d'ap. Crevel" (after Crevel), indicating that the original design was created by the celebrated French Art Deco artist René Crevel (1892-1971). René Crevel is regarded as one of the foremost architect-decorators of the Art Deco period, known for designing interiors for prestigious private residences and luxury shops. His artistic versatility extended to numerous decorative arts, including decorative panels, stained glass, wallpapers, textiles, tapestries, rugs, ceramics, and furniture. His creations were executed and distributed by the most renowned manufacturers of his time, including Limoges porcelain, Aubusson tapestries, and the the Sèvres manufacture like in our example here.
