This superb water jug dates from the late-nineteenth to early twentieth century. It is from the Savoy region and the brown glaze features swirls of olive green, beige and dark brown - a technique known as Jaspé. This was not only used for cold water but for heating water as well as seen by the charred unglazed underside.
