This charming antique French confit pot, dating from the 19th century, is a beautiful example of rustic pottery from Saint-Zacharie, a village known for its significant role in the ceramic industry of the Provence region. The pot features a classic bulbous shape with two small loop handles, ideal for holding and pouring. The exterior is adorned with a creamy glaze that has developed a rich craquelure pattern over time, adding to its vintage allure. The glaze shows signs of wear, with areas of exposed terracotta at the base and rim, indicative of its age and use. The base of the pot is stamped with "Saint-Zacharie," confirming its origin in this historic pottery-making village. Saint-Zacharie was renowned for its large ceramic kilns, which were integral in supplying ceramics across the Midi region and beyond, even to the French colonies. This confit pot, originally used for preserving meats, now serves as a lovely decorative piece, bringing a touch of Provence to any interior.
