A petite French preserve pot in honey-glazed terracotta, dating from the mid-20th century, likely from southwestern France.Distinguished by its simple handleless silhouette, it features a softly rounded ovoid body, a short neck, and a gently everted rim. As is characteristic of these utilitarian vessels, the body is only partly glazed, with the honey-to-mustard yellow finish contrasting beautifully against the exposed terracotta of the lower body. Variations in tone, glaze runs, and firing marks give the piece a warm, individual character. The pot shows age-related wear to the rim and a few scattered glaze losses, which contribute to its authentic rustic character.
Pots of this type were once used to store cooking fats, preserves, and other pantry staples in rural households. Today, its mellow glaze and pleasingly rounded form make it a charming decorative accent, whether used to hold wooden utensils, displayed alongside other pottery, or repurposed as a small vase with a glass liner. Its rich honey-yellow glaze draws the eye and brings a joyful note of colour to any setting.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
