An antique French pharmacy jar dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this cylindrical clear glass vessel retains its original gilt-framed label, applied from the interior and reading Cévadille Pulv., a reference to powdered sabadilla, a botanical substance historically stocked by apothecaries for domestic and medicinal use. The painted tin lid, finished in black with gilt bands, echoes the graphic treatment of the label, creating a cohesive and purposeful design. The glass remains clear, while the label shows gentle age toning and wear, complemented by light scuffs and patina to the lid, all consistent with age and use.
Elegant on its own or grouped with other apothecary bottles, it brings scholarly charm and a subtle note of intrigue to any setting. It may be styled in a cabinet of curiosities or repurposed as a chic container for bath salts in the bathroom.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
