A Spanish royal heraldic carriage panel, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, bearing the Royal Arms of Spain in the Bourbon form established under Charles III (r. 1759 to 1788) and used by the Spanish monarchy throughout much of the 19th century.
Executed on heavy-gauge sheet iron and originally mounted to a royal or state carriage, it displays the royal arms beneath a mantle of state and surrounded by the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece, one of Europe's most prestigious chivalric orders. Such panels served as visible emblems of royal authority during official journeys, state occasions, and ceremonial processions.
The elaborate heraldry reflects the grandeur of the Spanish Bourbon court, while the finely executed paintwork demonstrates the skill of the specialist craftsmen responsible for royal equipage. The beautifully aged surface has developed a rich patina and gentle craquelure, enhancing its depth and decorative appeal while preserving the remarkable clarity of the heraldic details. There is a small dent to the left side and old mounting holes along the upper edge from its original installation. A light cleaning would further reveal the richness of the colours if desired.
An unusual and highly decorative piece of Spanish history, it makes a striking wall display in an entry hall, library, or study. Whether displayed on its own or incorporated into a gallery wall, it brings a sense of history, nobility, and Old World character to an interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
