This medium-sized poêlon was made in Vallauris in the late 19th or early 20th century. It is crafted from terracotta with a wide, shallow bowl, a tubular handle pierced through for suspension, and a small pouring lip. These forms were designed for direct heat cooking in rural Provençal kitchens. The exterior is covered in a pale yellow glaze with hand-applied blue/ green jaspe decoration in a fluid, looping pattern. The interior is finished with a clear glaze over the natural red clay, enhancing the contrast between the glazed and unglazed surfaces. The glaze is visibly worn at the rim, and the surface shows small firing imperfections typical of kiln-fired country pottery. Well-preserved overall, the piece shows minor glaze losses and surface wear consistent with age and use. Its scale and decorative restraint reflect the practical elegance of Provençal domestic ware. A fine example of functional regional pottery from Vallauris, valued today for its authenticity and form.
