This lovely petite earthenware pitcher brings a gentle rustic note to a room, its moss green glaze washing over a warm clay body in soft drips and pools. Hand thrown with triple reeded bands and a gracefully curved side handle, it dates to the late nineteenth to early twentieth century and reflects the sturdy farmhouse pottery produced in Dieulefit, a town long known for its durable household wares made for everyday use. Its compact size and practical form suggest it was likely used as a small milk pot in the kitchen. Timeworn with small chips to the rim, minor glaze losses, and light surface crazing, it shows the kind of well-settled patina that enhances its rustic charm.
Display it on open shelving, cluster it with other green-glazed pieces, or use it as a characterful vessel for herbs or a tiny bouquet of wildflowers.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
