This petite French bedside table in the Louis XV style, mid-20th century, is finished in a soft cream paint with a gently distressed patina. The case presents a shaped three-sided gallery, three drawers with decorative foliate pulls painted to match, and slender cabriole legs ending in small scroll toes. Inspired by the rococo vocabulary of the 18th century, the curving apron, cabriole stance, and shell-inflected hardware echo Parisian Louis XV design, yet the forms are stylized and simplified, modernized to suit mid-20th-century taste, while the painted finish reflects the French provincial tradition of light, graceful bedroom furniture. In the postwar decades, many workshops produced such practical pieces, favoring lighter construction and modern materials like plywood for drawer bottoms, as seen here.
Its delicate proportions and soft palette make it easy to place. Use it as a nightstand in a primary bedroom or guest room, topped with a reading lamp and a small vase, or let it serve as a charming side table beside a settee. In a hallway or powder room, the three drawers offer tidy storage for essentials, while the curving legs and quiet patina add a refined French note to contemporary, country, or classical schemes.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
