From mid-20th-century France, this petite covered vessel takes the form of a miniature soup tureen, modeled in creamy white ceramic with a lustrous glaze. The rounded body is paired with a softly domed, gently scalloped lid, capped by a double-lobed finial resembling orchard fruit. It is fitted with two small scroll handles and stands on four whimsical scrolling feet. The surface is soft and even in tone with a gentle sheen. Condition is very good, showing tiny kiln specks and faint wear to the glaze.
Its silhouette recalls the convivial rituals of the 18th- and 19th-century table, when tureens and condiment pots brought rhythm and refinement to the service. Made in the tradition of white-glazed earthenware, its hand-applied handles, finial, and expressive feet lend character, while its petite scale gives the piece its particular charm.
Use it as a salt or mustard pot beside a cheese board, group it with other white ceramics, or place it on a dressing table for rings and small keepsakes.
Light wear.
