A rare vintage French white ironstone advertising pot for Grey Poupon Dijon mustard dating from around the 1930s to 1940s.
This small commemorative advertising pot is carefully hand painted with lively regional motifs that celebrate the culinary heritage of Burgundy. One side displays the coat of arms of Dijon framed by stylized yellow snails and vine leaves. The opposite side features clusters of grapes and foliage surrounding a raised medallion with the embossed Grey Poupon name.
The snails reference the famous Burgundy dish of escargots, while the grape clusters evoke the region’s celebrated vineyards and wine culture. Together these elements create a charming decorative program that honors the gastronomic identity of Burgundy.
The underside is marked “Deposé,” indicating a registered trademark. Despite gentle rubbing from age, the colors remain bright and expressive, highlighting the care taken in the original hand decoration. The lid is missing, as is often the case with these small condiment pots.
With its lively decoration and connection to historic French food culture, this petite piece makes a delightful decorative accent for a kitchen shelf, whether displayed in a mustard pot collection or repurposed as a tiny vase.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
