A petite country jug in slip glazed earthenware, this hand-thrown piece features a rounded shoulder above a banded cylindrical body, a pinched pouring lip, and a sturdy side handle. The glaze pools in smoky swirls of dark brown over warm buff clay, creating a rich marbled effect with a soft, timeworn sheen. Made in Dieulefit in the early twentieth century, it presents small chips to the spout, scattered glaze wear and age related crazing that deepens the patina. Such utilitarian wares were produced in rural workshops for everyday kitchen use, their simple forms and expressive glazes shaped by function and economy.
Today, this jug is charming on open shelving, works beautifully as a bud vase for simple stems, or serves as a small utensil holder by the stove. Its petite scale and authentic surface bring warmth and character to both traditional and modern interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
