A side-handled earthenware pitcher from the early twentieth century, hand thrown with a cylindrical body, turned bands, and a generous loop handle leading to a shaped pouring lip. The glaze is a soft moss green washed over warm buff clay, creating a lively sponged pattern that recalls rural kitchens in Provence. Made in Dieulefit, a renowned pottery town in the Drôme region, it would originally have served as a coffee pot or everyday jug. It presents in good, timeworn condition with minor chips and natural firing freckles typical of utilitarian pottery of the period.
Now used decoratively, it sits beautifully on open kitchen shelving alongside stoneware and copper for an inviting, collected look, or on a windowsill where shifting light catches the mellow green glaze. It also makes a charming vase for garden cuttings, and its sturdy form lends itself beautifully to holding wooden spoons or other everyday utensils. The soft green hue brings a quiet note of color, adding warmth and simple authenticity to the room.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
