An understated and narrow French two-part buffet in pine, late 19th or early 20th century, featuring a detachable cornice carved with scrolling rocaille motifs and a central shell crest. The upper cabinet has two paneled doors enclosing shelves, while the lower section offers two short drawers above a two-door cupboard, all set on a molded plinth. Finished in a later chalky off-white paint with darker undertones, it shows a beautifully aged patina with softly worn surfaces and traces of exposed wood. Both the upper and lower cupboards lock, the key being slightly temperamental.
This piece reflects the charm of rural French craftsmanship, uniting elegance and country simplicity. Ideal in a kitchen, pantry or entry, it brings quiet gravitas to a farmhouse, French country, or pared-back contemporary interior. Use the upper shelves for everyday crockery or baskets and the lower cupboard for serving pieces and table linens, keeping the drawers for cutlery and candles. The slim footprint suits an entry hall or breakfast nook.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
