A charming early 20th-century Savoyard handcrafted terracotta vase, distinguished by its glossy iridescent glaze and bold stylised floral decoration evocative of the Art Deco period. The softly rounded body rises to a gently flared neck framed by two elegantly raised loop handles set high on the shoulder, while large cream and olive-green flowers unfold across a deep black ground. Rather than simply painted, the flowers and foliage are worked in subtle relief with delicately incised details, giving the decoration depth and texture beneath the glaze. Fine craquelure and soft tonal variations further enrich the luminous surface. Scattered small chips, firing speckles, and areas of wear consistent with its history and use all contribute to its authentic charm and artisanal character. If used for fresh flowers, a liner is recommended.
This simple vase feels equally at home filled with late summer flowers on a farmhouse table, placed on an open kitchen shelf among well-loved ceramics, or standing alone as a sculptural accent. The contrast between the dark lustrous ground and the softly raised floral decoration gives it a richness that draws the eye without overwhelming a space, carrying both the simplicity of regional folk pottery and the bold elegance of early Art Deco design.
