Gracefully proportioned and richly detailed, this early- to mid-20th-century French hanging lantern is wrought in iron and finished in a soft, time-worn verdigris green. The tapered six-sided frame is edged with twisted strapwork and crowned by exuberant scrolling volutes, while pressed iron leaves form a floral collar around a single lampholder. It retains an evocative surface patina, with layers of aged paint, scattered rust, and one decorative leaf now missing, all contributing to its authentic character and charm.
All glass panes are now absent, lending the lantern an airy, architectural quality. The open design highlights the sculptural strength of the ironwork and makes it best suited for display indoors or in a sheltered area.
This piece will bring character to an entry, stair hall, or garden room, where its patinated surface reads as an authentic architectural accent. Hang it in a covered porch for a rustic welcome, or suspend it over a kitchen table for a relaxed, collected mood.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
