An impressive bronze sculpture by Thomas François Cartier (1879–1943), this powerful study of a prowling lioness captures the taut energy of a predator mid-stride. The dark brown patina is enlivened by warm highlights across the musculature, catching the light and emphasizing both movement and controlled tension. Likely cast in the early 20th century, it reflects the European tradition of naturalistic animal sculpture and the finesse of lost-wax casting, capturing lifelike detail from the open jaws to the splayed claws gripping the rocky base.
Ideal for a mantel, console, library shelf, or distinguished desk, the sculpture presents a beautifully mellowed patina, minor rubbing to the high points, and light surface marks consistent with age. The base bears an incised signature reading “T. CARTIER.” Its rich surface tones harmonize beautifully with stone, leather, or dark wood, lending a refined, slightly dramatic presence to studies, living rooms, entry halls, or an elegant office, where it can anchor a vignette of books or artwork.
