This French Napoleon III silver-plated bronze centerpiece, dating to circa 1880's, is richly cast in the Louis XVI Revival style and raised on four scrolled feet with leafy mounts entwined with laurel branches. The openwork body is designed as a woven basket, interlaced with laurel garlands, and features two engraved monogrammed cartouches adorned with beading, ribbon bows, and floral swags, as well as two additional medallions finely cast as floral baskets. A delicate beaded border completes the base, while the removable silver-plated liner still fits neatly within the frame. The surface shows a soft, muted silver tone, with areas of rubbing revealing warm bronze and copper tones at the high points. The interior displays wear and oxidation consistent with age and use.
Although unmarked, the fine casting and silver-plated bronze construction place this centerpiece among high-quality Parisian work of the late 19th century. Its neoclassical motifs closely relate to documented Christofle jardinières of the 1860s–1880s, and similar examples have been attributed to the house. While no firm attribution can be made, the craftsmanship is fully in keeping with the standards of the leading makers of the period.
On a console or buffet, its softly timeworn silvered surface pairs elegantly with patinated wood, crystal, and linen, bringing a subtle sense of history to the setting.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
