A striking large four-panel folding screen featuring a painted adaptation of the Allegory of Spring by the French artist André Charles Voillemot. Rich in romantic Belle Époque charm, the composition depicts an ethereal female figure surrounded by cherubs, doves, and flowering foliage within a dreamy pastoral landscape.
André Charles Voillemot (1822–1893) was a French painter celebrated for his romantic allegorical and decorative compositions in the neo-Rococo taste. A regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon, he received a silver medal in 1870 and was named a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur the same year. Today, his elegant Belle Époque paintings are increasingly appreciated by collectors of 19th century French art.
Decorated on one side only, the scene unfolds gracefully across the four arched panels, creating a theatrical decorative effect, while the reverse is finished in a deep dark tone.
This screen would make a dramatic backdrop, room divider, or wall decoration in a living room, bedroom, or dressing area. A wonderfully romantic and highly decorative piece that captures the refined spirit of Belle Époque interiors and the enduring appeal of French allegorical art.
