This original 1961 French agricultural prize plaque is a striking artifact from a local livestock fair held in Mayenne, in the northwest of France. Awarded for a second-place finish in the "Femelles 3e section" (female cattle, third section), the plaque is cast in aluminum and retains traces of its original bold red paint, softly worn with age. Raised lettering and a classic oval form speak to the craftsmanship and pride associated with rural livestock competitions of mid-century France. A loop at the top allows for easy hanging.
Historically, plaques like this were proudly displayed on barn walls or stable doors, showcasing a farm's accomplishments in breeding and animal care. Today, they add an authentic rustic charm to interiors, especially in kitchens, garden rooms, or farmhouses. This piece works beautifully as a stand-alone accent or grouped with other vintage plaques to create a layered, timeworn look. Other plaques are available for collectors or decorators seeking to build a unique wall display.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
